Christopher Poole, also known as Moot launched his own image board at the age of 15. It was originally for him and his friends to post their opinions on anime and manga (Japanese cartoons and artwork)
However, due to the nature of the site where posters didnt have to disclose their identity, people started to abuse the site. Pictures and comments started to flood the board. Many of the posters would put up obscene comments and pictures of a racist nature etc. Instead of crashing, the site prospered and was completely swamped with new posters daily.
What originally started as a single page bulletin board, turned soon into a page with 43 different sub-sections and over 8.5 million views per day. Over the last few years, the people on this site have been the cause of many major hacking scandals. Placing the blame always on E-baum's world.
Now, after just 6 years, the company is worth over €580 million.
As for the election, Time Magazine recently had a poll to find out the most influential people in the world. And the anonymous community on the site saw this and decided that Moot should be on the top of the list.
All the posters started to vote, change their IP's and vote again. Some created programmes that would do this automatically and well into the night.
Moot was voted into the top ten of Time's most influential people in the world.
The site is www.4chan.org
Enjoy. :D
